2025 Fang, Feather, and Fin Update
Hello everyone!
We want to apologize for the lull here on Fang, Feather, and Fin’s website. We did not expect the last year to be so busy for all three of us and to derail our progress on articles so much. Now that we’re all feeling more settled in, we wanted to share with you everything we have been up to and everything coming up!
As you know, we launched our website in November 2022, and we have managed to post 18 articles since we launched. We also migrated the website from Wix to WordPress in 2024 because it fit our needs better. We were also able to host a Fang, Feather, and Fin discussion and meetup at the Somerville Library in Somerville, MA, back in February 2025. That was a great success, and we hope to host these events a few times a year in New England. Folks who attended said that they enjoyed being able to engage with furry history outside of the usual convention spaces.
We have also been working on our Archive. In terms of physical furry media, we have been hunting through comic shops, antique stores, convention booths, internet sale sites and more. We have also been extremely lucky to have many furries donate comics, zines, journals, books, newspapers, conbooks, shirts, and other physical ephemera that we are working to catalogue and one day exhibit. We have also been working alongside other furry historians to archive digital media, which presents its own unique set of challenges.
A lot of our archival work is happening behind the scenes. For example, we have spent a lot of time and energy entering metadata (i.e., bibliographic information) on furry publications. This is an instrumental part of the archival process because proper metadata serves as an accurate record of the many publications, editors, authors, artists, etc., who have contributed to furry’s history of publications and other creations. Because many furry publications (e.g., zines) have numerous contributors, we have to go page by page through each and every publication.
Although the archival process takes a lot of work, we are committed to doing everything right. For instance, for any archival materials we’d like to share, we need permission from the creator(s). It takes a long time to gather permissions, and sometimes there are very legitimate reasons an artist or creator does not want something shared. We will always respect that. In addition, we plan to digitize everything we possess in a professional manner and share all we have permission to share, with the goal of creating a massive archive of furry work for all to enjoy. Meanwhile, the physical archive will never be without a home. Since it belongs to Fang, Feather and Fin as a nonprofit organization, we are making plans that will allow this archive to persist through time. Finally, we want to give the fandom the chance to interact with our physical items, and we plan to do so at panels, meetups, and eventually pop-up “museums.”
Speaking of in-person activities: Fang, Feather and Fin has had the opportunity to present panels at multiple conventions now, some of which were recorded! Fang, Feather and Fin presented at:
- Anthrocon 2024 | <link>
- Furry Weekend Atlanta 2024 | <link>
- Furry Studies 2024 (Academic Conference) | <link>
- Further Confusion 2024 – No recording available
- Furry Migration 2023 – No recording available
Looking ahead, all three of us have multiple articles in the works. We have many folks we’re hoping to interview soon as well, and we will continue our work on the archive. We will have a panel at Anthrocon 2025 and hopefully another panel later this year, as well as at least one more FFF meetup in New England.
